Motivational Aspects of Behavioural Change Research, 2007
Following from the finding of the NHF’s Health and Lifestyle research of 2005 where the motivation and time prevents consumers from leading healthier lifestyles. This motivational research examined what motivates people to make changes to their lifestyle habits, what contributes to them being successful and what prevents them from implementing desired changes to their lifestyle.
The key findings of this research include:
advice from a doctor or healthcare professional is key in motivating med to make and continue lifestyle changes; for women triggers such as not looking well in a photograph is a strong motivator
Women try harder than men to make changes but are not always successful in carrying through these changes
Many people are not making the connection between increased health risks and beigh overweight/obese, as 92% were happy with their health
Different targeted appracohes are required when designing public health campagins for men and women to ensure maximum impact.
