Activities planned for Workplace Wellbeing Day

For Workplace Wellbeing Day on the 31st March 2017, the Bank has a range of wellness activities taking place across each of the Bank’s three locations.

Speakers will deliver a number of talks throughout the day that will include the following:

  • Weight management and weight motivation

  • Reducing stress and maximising energy

  • Mindfulness

  • Nutrition – healthy food options preparing for summer

We are also participating in the lunch time mile which will be led by senior management.

Our catering providers will be providing nutritional meal options across each of our staff restaurant locations. They will also be providing fruit platters in collaborative areas during the course of the day.

Tours of the new Wellness Centre will take place on 31st March. Our Wellness Centre has 6 rooms, a small room (Strength Room) which holds 7 pieces of equipment, a dedicated room for classes (Vitality room) which can hold classes of 25 people, a quiet room (Serenity Room) which is used for quiet reflections and meditation, a Recovery Room which will be used for staff who feel unwell, a medical room which will primarily be used by the Occupational Health Specialists, however this room will be used for our health initiatives such as the Anti-Flu vaccinations, health screenings, eye tests etc.

As part of our Wellness Centre opening, Induction Managers will be available to answer any questions staff have on the pieces of equipment.

Our sports and social club, together with the Yoga and Pilates instructors will be available in the Vitality room to answer any questions staff have on the classes which take place.

Launching our four Sli Na Slainte (Irish Heart Foundation) walking routes from our new campus in North Wall Quay.

Current/previous activities

The Bank provides a wide variety of workplace wellbeing activites and this offering is supported by many of the Bank's company policies. Workplace Wellbing activites include the following:

Wellness Information Pages: Dedicated Health and Wellbeing pages on our intranet site which includes information on employee supports, facilities and information on key themes such as healthy heart week, mental health, and insomnia support.

Employee Assistance Programmes: The Central Bank employs an internal Employee Assistance Officer who is an accredited counsellor. The Central Bank also has a full external EAP service which is available 24:7.

Onsite Wellness Centre at our new Docklands Campus, which includes:

  • Strength Room – 7 pieces of equipment including an upright cycle, 2 cross trainers, 2 treadmills, Watt bike and multi gym;

  • Vitality Room (fitness space) which will host a range of exercise classes such as Yoga & Pilates;

  • Serenity Room is a quiet room which can be used for meditation and quiet reflection.

Sports and Social Clubs: 14 sport and social clubs including Basketball, Bowling, Golf, Camera, Irish Language, Surf, Athletics, Tag Rugby, Football, Angling, Walking. Many of these clubs compete in leagues across Europe. There are currently 825 active members of Sports and Social.

Yoga and Pilates Classes: Regular classes held onsite at lunchtime and evenings throughout our locations.

The Pedometer Challenge: c400 staff registered for and participated in the Workplace Pedometer Challenge in 2015. The Central Bank is running the pedometer challenge again in September 2017.

Smarter Travel Action Plan: The Central Bank has a Smarter Travel Action Plan which is a robust package of measures to encourage a shift to sustainable travel modes such as walking, cycling and public transport.

Smoking Cessation Programme: The Central Bank is currently running a Smoking Cessation programme which was launched in February 2017.

Health Screenings: Available every 3 years and during 2015, 592 staff availed of the screenings (next Health Screenings due 2018).

Blood Pressure Screening: Organised for Healthy Heart Week in March 2016.

VDU Testing: 470 staff tested in 2015 (testing is completed every 2 years, and due again in 2017).

Anti-flu Vaccinations: This service is provided annually and over 474 vaccinations were carried out in 2016.

Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Training: Took place in December 2016 across all locations. 30 people received training on how to perform CPR, the safe use of an AED, and how to recognise and treat a person with a suspected heart attack or stroke.

First Aiders and Fire Marshall: Training provided regularly.

Healthy Catering: Significant emphasis on healthy options in our staff restaurants with an increased salad and pulse offering.

Fruit Platters: Distributed across our sites weekly.

Mindfulness and Resilience Workshops: Sessions were introduced in 2016 and will take place twice a month during 2017. In 2016, 206 staff attended these workshops.

Public Service Friendly Society (PSFS): This is a non-profit organisation that provides support as well as confidential, independent advice to the staff of the Civil and Public Service. Using the contributions made by members, the society provides confidential assistance to those members and their dependants in times of need.

Health Insurance: The Central Bank operates a payroll deduction facility to allow staff to pay their Health Insurance premium through the payroll.

Salary Protection Plan: Payable through payroll, this plan is an insurance against financial hardship in the event of long term illness.

Charity Committee: Every year, the Charity Committee partners with five charities. The Central Bank run campaigns throughout the year such as the ‘Bank's Got Talent’, a charity event in 2016 which raised €25,000 for our partner charities. Many staff volunteer in the Charity initiatives.

Retirees:

  • Our programme currently organises a monthly coffee morning followed by lunch with our retired staff;

  • Retired staff are also invited to an annual Governor’s evening in which retired members with 20+ years of service attend;

  • Bridge classes;

  • Access to promotional offers through the sports and social club;

  • Annual remembrance service for deceased members of staff and retirees.

Family Friendly Initiatives: It is intended to maximise opportunities to bring families, and friends, into our building in the Docklands Campus via a number of organised, bespoke activities.

Children's Christmas Party: The Central Bank’s Sports & Social Club currently organise the annual Children’s Christmas Party. 

Women’s Network: The Central Bank has a number of speaker sessions and also provides mentoring for women in the early stages of their career.
