~ Positive Approaches to Obesity ~
The Nutrition and Health Foundation (NHF) Nutrition and Health Foundation hosted a seminar today (Tuesday 23 September 08) on
Positive Approaches to Obesity.
The seminar, opened by Mary Wallace TD, Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children with special responsibility for Health Promotion and Food Safety, examined the role of both the public and private sectors in tackling the continued increase in the incidence of obesity in Ireland and highlighted the work of the Nutrition and Health Foundation since its launch in 2005. It also addressed the root causes of the huge problems associated with a population becoming more obese.
We were delighted to have Professor Sylvia Rowe, Strategic Consultant for Edelman and former CEO of International Food Information Council, as a keynote speaker at the event. Sylvia has worked with both U.S.-based and international leaders in industry, government and health organizations, giving her a truly global perspective. She serves regularly as a speaker and panelist at nutrition and food safety conferences and meetings in the U.S. and around the world. In addition to her role at Edelman, Rowe is president of SR Strategy, a consulting firm in Washington D.C., and serves as adjunct professor at the Tufts University Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy and at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Mr. Brian Mullen, Principle Officer, Health Promotion Policy Unit, Department of Health and Children, Professor Niall Moyna, Head of the School of Health and Human Performance; Faculty of Science and Health at Dublin City University and Mr. Colin Gordon, CEO of Glanbia Consumer Foods also presented at this event.
