Overview

The Nutrition & Health Foundation (NHF) aims to provide consumers with evidence-based information on nutrition and physical activity, to enable them to make informed lifestyle choices. We are currently running three key initiatives to promote a healthier Ireland:

(1) Research
The NHF regularly undertakes or provide funding for consumer attitudes and motivation towards health, diet, exercise and lifestyle. This research is primarily conducted to provide greater insight into consumer attitudes and develop better methods for encouraging, maintaining, restoring or achieving a greater quality of health in the population through improved diet, physical activity and lifestyle. The research results provide the basis for NHF initiatives and projects.

Some of the projects that the NHF have undertaken, funded or been involved with to date are:

(2) Workplace Wellbeing Campaign
A workplace that supports healthy lifestyles offers an enormous benefit to its employees. Given the length of time that people spend in the workplace, it is recognised as an appropriate setting for health promotion. Addressing diet and physical inactivity in this setting can serve to improve the health status of workers. (Preventing Non-communicable Diseases in the Workplace through Diet and Physical Activity’ World Health Organisation and the World Economic Forum, 2008).

The workplace well being offers an easy and convenient way for employers to help their workers in this regard.

(3) Eat Smart Week
The NHF's Eat Smart Week is an awareness raising initiative. The aim is to highlight that healthy eating is possible to achieve in this time deficient era. Small changes can make all the difference to your diet, health and wellbeing.

Top chefs such as Derry Clarke, Rozanne Stevens and Kevin Dundon prepare delicious and healthy recipes. These recipes provide inspiration to help you make simple but vital changes to your diet and to incorporate our themes for Eat Smart Week.
